Abstract:
In 1978,among descendants of“Australia millet x Tulufan millet”cross some male sterile plants were obtained.Through seven generationsof testcrossing or backcrossing to the recessive was conduc ted,segre-gation of male sterile and male fertile plants in a ratio of 1∶1 was ob-served.when the sterile plants were selfed a segregation of 3 male ste-rile:1 male fertile took place. The fertile plants always breed true.Thesterility discovered for the first time in millet is conditional by a domi-nant male-sterile gene in the nucleus. The gene is of great value in the study of heterosis and conventional breeding of millet as well as the theorectical aspects in plant genetics.
